Breast-feeding driver to contest charges

RAVENNA, Ohio - A woman charged with child endangering after troopers saw her breast-feeding her daughter while driving on the Ohio Turnpike claims the prosecutor has harassed her by piling on more charges.

Catherine Donkers, 29, of Pittsburgh, was arrested May 8 and faces a court appearance in Ravenna on Aug. 6 on charges of failing to comply with a lawful order, obstructing official business, driving while under suspension, improper child restraint and child endangering.

A passing trucker saw Donkers nursing her child at the wheel, thought it was dangerous and called the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Donkers insisted that she did nothing wrong, and said she didn't feel that she was putting her child in any excess danger.

Breast-feeding mom put her baby at risk

The 29-year-old Pittsburgh woman who was charged in May with child endangerment after troopers saw her breastfeeding her daughter while driving on the Ohio Turnpike should be held accountable for her actions.

The woman, who was driving near Ravenna with her baby in her arms, claims the prosecutor in the case added charges recently to intimidate her. She also claims using a cell phone behind the wheel is even riskier than the breastfeeding stunt.
And let's not forget that the baby legally should have been buckled in a car seat.

Trying to do two things at once, perhaps because she was in a hurry or late getting somewhere is not worth risking lives, especially her baby's and the other drivers' on the roadway with her that day.

This Pittsburgh woman can dispute the charges, that's her right, but let's hope the judge in this case sees her for what she truly was that day - off her rocker, which ironically would have been a much safer place for her to breastfeed her child.

The woman was also driving on a suspended license, and traveling at a higher than posted rate of speed.
Above the law? or just an idiot that needs to be behind bars for awhile? You deside. JMHO
