This chart describes the relationship between coal and electric power generation.

% of electric plants
type of fuel powered by this source

Coal 54.00%
Nuclear 22.00%
Natural gas 13.00%
Renewable 9.00%
Petroleum 3.00%
101.00% rounding error somewhere

My conclusion is coal is needed for electric power generation. Also, electric power
is intergal to modern American life, so all supply links are intergal. Railroads,
railcars, barges, trucks, coal mines are all supply links.
