And to start off the thread, I will provide a company that our family has invested some money into which I believe had very high hopes of completely changing the way pathogenic and Forensic sampling is conducted.

We've known the founder's family for many years and watched has he struggled to bring this technology to fruition. After his tragic passing in 2009 from Brain Cancer, his son picked up the reins and has brought his talent and skills to validating and marketing the product.

As has been explained to us, this is the classic "razor and razor blades" business model. Sell the sampler once, and supply the sterile sampling fluid on a re-occurring basis.

From what I'm seeing this company, the founder of which, Bruce Bradley, is on the verge of some very interesting developments. Originally developed to provide better pathogenic sampling on meat products, it's use is currently being explored for Forensic sampling of DNA. There are developing opportunities for sampling for Listeria on vegetables and other produce.
