I agree - the huge drop in short interest probably means the odds of any significant downside potential are greatly outweighed by a much greater potential for a significant spike up.

The was no 're-shorting' last fall when the short interest dropped by 50% nor was there any 're-shorting' over the past 2 months when short interest dropped another 50%. And short interest has been dropping significantly during a time when the chart has looked 'pretty sick'.

An 80% drop in short interest in 7 months (90% since 12/00) is a lot more than satiated short sellers in my book: it's the market SCREAMING that there's good news on the immediate horizon.

Time will tell.
