SOMERS, N.Y. (Dow Jones)--PepsiCo Inc.'s (PEP) Pepsi-Cola Co. unit and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) will launch a ''High-Tech Holiday'' promotion next week that was animated by Pixar (PIXR) and Blue Sky Studios, and offers a consumer rebate on software and online services.
The promotion will run throughout the holidays.
In a press release, Pepsi said the promotion will feature digitally animated characters originated by Pixar (PIXR) and animated by Blue Sky. The state-of-the-art characters and the Microsoft offer will be featured in a thematic television commercial as well as on about 200 million Pepsi packages and on point-of-purchase displays.
Consumers who redeem proofs-of-purchase from select Pepsi and Microsoft products will receive a $5 rebate on up to 17 featured Microsoft CD-ROM titles. Titles involved in the promotion include Flight Simulator, Encarta Encyclopedia, Scholastic's Magic School Bus Series, Deadly Tide, Monster Truck Madness, and the Automap line of products. In addition, there is an offer for free time on MSN, the Microsoft Network.
The promotion also will be supported through Pepsi World, Pepsi's website. The site will offer sweepstakes opportunities to win Microsoft and Pepsi products, Pepsi screensavers and holiday e-cards featuring the seasonal characters as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the special thematic commercial.
The commercial was produced by BBDO Worldwide, Pepsi's advertising agency and developed by TL Partnership.
