hi rkf,

The heavy tech weight will act as a lead weight during times like these. I have, based upon Bogle/Swedroe/PhD theses, put most of my cash into Vanguard Index funds. I don't even mess with trying to pick a specific sector for mutual fund investing.

I believe tech will perform very well in the future. But if you read any analytical reports on the performance, extra risk is present (read CSCO/INTC/JDSU/AMCC) and expansion of P/Es is present as well. (Having said that I love tech! I own many tech stocks.)

The index stocks I use are the Vanguard REIT, Vanguard Small Cap Index, Vanguard Mid-Cap Index, Vanguard GNMA, and Vanguard Total Market Index.

Have you read any of the Bogle books? I'll admit that they are not compelling reading over a fancy dinner on a Friday night, but they truly are really good books! :)

How has the Equity Growth performed vs. the 500 or Total Market? Is your $ in an IRA or taxable account? These can play important roles in your decision.

Have you checked out the thread on Morningstar? It is simply fantastic for Vanguard info.
