A few things:
1) I was not lumping NetApp into the large cap category; if it came across like that, my apologies.
2) I probably should have cited a longer timeline for my comparisons vis-a-vis small cap v. large cap. After several bad years - when tech is all anyone talked about, the small cap market in general has been doing very well. I recall the day NTAP was trading @ $152...I seem to recall the P/E at that time was 1005. Still kicking myself for not selling that day, as my cost basis was $11! I finally sold in early 2001, but not early enough. Sooo..."chopped liver" compared to that? Heck, YES!
3) At any rate, NTAP is trading a what kind of multiple these days? I just don't understand what the rational basis might be for its current valuation.
I'm in the IT industry, and although no expert on the storage market, I'm a fairly good position to see what's going on...and it's "war" between the vendors, and its early in the war. In storage, I'd say it's like right after Pearl Harbor...perhaps after Dolittle's attack on the Japanese mainland. (NAS being analogous to Dolittle's attack).
The winner - or even the future direction - is not clear by a long shot, just as it wasn't 100% certain that the Allies would be the victors in WWII.
All JMHO; the usual disclaimers apply.
