Hi kid,

I tend to be a purist about poetry, thinking that, like painting, it's an art that one must study to learn.

Lord only knows there are plenty of folks who disagree with me, though.

That said, I an *thrilled* by the advent of poetry jams and rap because they call attention to language, to the rhythm and rhyme of it, to its power. And for this I'm really grateful.
