I think that the product and technology are ready for the middle market (or at least greatly improved for this market). Configuration tools were much improved in Version 3. Functionality and usabilty improved even more in Siebel '98. It think that the thin client will be a big hit.

However, I don't think Siebel's business model supports the middle market. The software is still very pricey -- the costs are not showing signs of coming down. Also, for implementation, Siebel's still counting on the Andersens and PWs for implementation. For this reason alone, you're talking mega bucks for an implementation. If Siebel bundled and priced the software more attractively, and if they developed a consulting arm for 'rapid' implementations, then they could be successful here (IMO). Siebel seems to have no interest in this market however. At least not that I can see.
