RSA Europe Conf. 4/10-13 in Munich, Germany.....

PartI

Given all the CyberComm roll out schedule talk yesterday, it got me thinking. Does anyone think that the European stage is set for some kind of Press/Media/Industry Awareness campaign to call attention to the deployment of the 20,000 CyberComm sites by the end of this month, to herald the deployment of 200,000 CyberComm sites by year end, and to trumpet the deployment of 2,000,000 sites by 2002?

I'm thinking a press/media campaign is not the Wave style, but what about something tied into that RSA Conference in Munich April 10-13? Might be a good place to pinpoint target market clients in a very hospitable environment. Hospitable environment because the Platinum Sponsors are all recognizable names; RSA Security Inc., Compaq Computer Corporation, IBM Corporation, VeriSign, Inc. and Cisco Systems. ( Cisco is the only firm which I believe isn't/or hasn't been mentioned in the WAVX corporate literature as having a distinct strategic/development relationship but somewhere in the thousands of pages of material I've read I thought they were mentioned.)

Might be a good time for a press release, and more important, to educate European firms on what's happening in France with CyberComm, the evolution of the 'trusted client' security doctrine and WAVX's central role in the French progam.

Part II

Then there was the blogan's message today #159722 (link below) where he got a few minutes with G. Gilder for an informal Q and A after the GTE conference in Atlanta 3/10 [I encourage all to read this message!!] There was a question and response which caught my attention as regards Part I of this post. That excerpt is-

"....LOGAN: What's the announced agreement with Compaq?

GILDER: It's an agreement with the Compaq Europe division who have a deal with a European banking consortium which in turn will run smart card readers all over Europe. Compaq has a contract to build these smart card readers which I believe will contain the Wave chip.

Now this is not Compaq PCs, it's Compaq smart card readers in Europe. It is a part of Compaq and there have been all sorts of negotiations with Compaq for 10 years and this is the first fruits.
Whether all banking in Europe is going to be based on these readers is unknown. The banks want it to be based on these smart card readers....."

Mention of an agreement in Europe with Compaq Europe which was new news to me and I think other Wavoids!! Again it is something which to me indicates some type of "Industry Awareness Campaign" is going to happen and given Wave's low key 'proof before public relations' strategy, an excellent place for such an event would be something timed/associated with the European RSA conference. Remember all the players are already Platinum Sponsers. (Part I)

Well enough conjecture for me. I think April will be exciting what with the NAB conference and the RSA Munich gathering.
