More on Cyber-Comm from 1/31/00 Les Echos

Note:
1)I posted this on RB late last night. Thought I'd do so here as well as people over there found it interesting.
2) Tsunami remarked this AM that "In that same phrase, I also like mention of the term "multi-application cards" - another way of saying programmable, as in programmable EII chips. Mess. #160135

I especially like this phrase "....It intends to promote, internationally, Cyber COMM, a French solution to making payments over the internet secure. It also aims to promote "multi-application" cards.....".

LES ECHOS: CARTE BLEUE GROUP FOCUSES ON SECURITISATION OF ELECTRONIC COMMERCE (LE GROUPEMENT CARTE BLEUE MET LE CAP SUR LA SECURISATION DU COMMERCE ELECTRONIQUE)
Les Echos - France, Jan 31, 2000, 112 words

Carte Bleue, the French payment cards group, now has 21.5 million cards in circulation. It intends to promote, internationally, Cyber COMM, a French solution to making payments over the internet secure. It also aims to promote "multi-application" cards.

Following a testing period in the Autumn, Cyber COMM, which was created in 1998 and groups banks, specialist chip card associations and industrialists, is expected to launch its secured internet payment system in a few weeks. The company intends to distribute 20,000 chip-card readers to several thousand private clients, with the aim of being able to reach at least 200 web retailers at the end of next year and 1 million private customers by 2002. The group is also promoting multi-application cards on which you can make payments, withdrawals, or carry out non-banking operations such as loyalty schemes.
