Well you agree that these issues DO get carried way too far, but I don't think you agree with me when I say that people can be whipped into a lather over ANY issue - dangerous or not! ie: If the dangers of second hand smoke is the issue, why in the world would someone try to push through a law that makes it illegal to smoke in your own car? With that in mind, is it unreasonable to assume that someone might try to make it illegal for an obese person to operate a vehicle, using the increased chances of a stroke or heart attack while driving as the basis for the law? Will it stop there, or will it continue until it's gone too far - where a person 20 lbs overweight is considered obese (as we have seen with the campaign against alcohol and tobacco)? Will the people that have given in and lost the excess weight develop the I-did-it-so-you-can-too smug attitude that the ex-smokers are famous for? I agree with you about it not being fair, but I don't share your optimism that this can never happen in the Land Of The Free. Don't forget, 40 years ago drinkers outnumbered non-drinkers and smokers outnumbered non-smokers! Hell, the American Revolution was plotted in a BAR!
