Tom,

Thanks for updating me on the Japan situation. If anyone has read Prime Minister Hashimoto's recent statement that Japan has so much in US bonds and so much in cash etc and that Japan will not go under by any means, anyone might have wondered why Japan had not done more to help themselves early on.

To be sure, we have been inundated with so many conflicting reports about so many things (inflation/deflation, gold, Japan, EMU and what not) that it is not funny.

Let us all hope that 1998 will see us wiser and more alert to opportunities.
