The rebuttal seems to basically concede the guts of the six page article when the best it can do is go into indignant outrage over small details -- "Africa vs West Africa", the men did not accompany Ledeen on his flight to Italy, as if that was of any consequence... implying things like that the authour did not know that the Iraq war did not occur in 2001, which is ridiculous grasping for straws. This is pretty typical. A newspaper like the National Post can try to get away with printing a story about Iran forcing Jews to wear identifying insignias that is a complete, baseless fabrication, but authoritative journalists are harangued about obscure nit-picking details. Authour James Bamford won the 2006 National Magazine Award in the reporting category for this story:

rollingstone.com

Is this perhaps a reflection of the fact that his stories are rock solid, as they obviously have to be given the people he is writing about?
