Hi Win Smith; Re the "hype".
It's amazing what lengths people will go to, in order to avoid admitting simple facts. When the US gave "top secret" information to UN inspectors, no WMDs were found. When the US went in and looked in its "top secret" locations, no WMDs were found. Iraq didn't fire any missiles at Israel. The US didn't find any Scud missiles. The Iraqis didn't use any chemical or biological weapons. The US didn't find any chemical or biological weapons.
From this, one can simply conclude that Iraq didn't have any WMDs. The alternative is to believe in something damn near approaching flying saucers.
Many reports have leaked to the press to the effect that the spy professionals didn't have any proof that Iraq had WMDs. The political opponents of Bush and Blair have leaked passages from these reports. Bush and Blair's supporters claim that "context" is everything, but since they haven't shown any context, one can conclude that they don't have one. And before the war, Bush and Blair told the public, the UN, and their allies that they had incontrovertible proof that Iraq had WMDs.
From this, one can simply conclude that Bush and Blair are idiots or liars.
It's not a matter of conservatives versus liberals, as the Conservative party in England is beating up Blair far more than the Democratic party in the US is beating up Bush.
Given that their lie was obviously going to be uncovered in the event of the actual war, my vote is that the two of them are world class idiots. The incident when they provided "top secret" useless information to the UN inspectors is more evidence of this, as is the failure to plan for the consequences of the painfully obvious fact that the Iraqi civilians weren't going to be happy.
