Well, show me a uniform way to 'count' "off-budget" future obligations out to 50 or a hundred years, and I'll be happy to look at a re-ranking as far as "official national debt". :-)

(But I kinda always figured that INFLATION was the standard politician's "out" for over-promising stuff far into the future... and that none of that stuff a hundred years out was ever "real" anyway....)

Certainly it is beyond the ability of economics or accounting to have any statistical validity out much beyond the 20, 30, 40 year horizons anyway --- far too much unknown that absolutely WILL happen, but cannot be predicted.
