BOLTON WANTED TO FIRE… ALLY OF CASTRO SPY

With all this talk about Cuba & WMDs, let us remember that there were two basic positions in the U.S. gov’t on the threat posed by Castro: Bolton’s, and the one authored in part by someone convicted of spying for Castro. No, that’s not being terribly unfair; the camps were divided (along familiar lines) between those who believed Castro was up to no good (Bolton and maybe five others at State), and those who didn’t (which included the convicted Castro spy, Ana Montes). Even after Montes’ arrest in September 2001, the official threat assessment on Castro barely budged.

So when the AP reports that Bolton wanted to fire an analyst who took the side of Castro’s spy, what’s wrong with that again
