Will everyone rush to the electronics stores and buy a 56k modem once there is a standard? No. Why? Because 56k over the regular phone line is just marketing hype, it's not nearly as 2 times fast as your old modem that you just spent $100 bought last year. How do I know? I have a x2. So will 3Com and Ascend turn red and go bankrupt if 56k standard gets further delayed? No. Why? Because the networkers have a lot more stuff in their product portfolio than the analysts can imagine and comprehend.
