I don't think so. The PS2 is a consumer electronics product, where Sony has infinitely more experience than Microsoft. They have relationships in the distribution channels, they have the marketing experience, and they have been known to occasionally bring products, that work consistently, to market on time.

Sony has the advantage of the first to market with this specialized game/DVD/Internet device. I think that Sony can and will react to whatever Microsoft does, probably before Microsoft can get to retail shelves. Consumer electronics is Sony's core business, this is an adventure for Microsoft.
