During the conference call following the USRX earnings release, the results of Robotics' field tests were discussed. Specifically, 24 ISPs conducted beta testing in 87 area codes, and over 20,000 telephone lines. The results of these tests, as presented by Robotics, was a greater than 90% connectivity at 56k.
Rockwell, meanwhile, has only conducted laboratory and internal testing. During their conference call today, they indicated their product is generally connecting between the mid 40s and mid 50s. Although not directly stated, it sounded like 50k was a typical rate. Rockwell is leaving it to their modem maker customers to do the field testing. It sounds like Rockwell and their customers are taking shortcuts to get something out the door.
