Growing up our household was pretty apolitical. My Dad, Mom and I have very similar political beliefs. However, my other step-siblings, who I grew up with from a very early age, would be pretty comfortable in an "Occupy" camp. That is, if they weren't too damned lazy to get their asses down and put up a tent.
My Mom was in her 20s in the 60s and was involved in the L.A. music and entertainment scene, and I have some terrific photos of her in her hippie attire. But, she also always worked and more importantly, she was absolutely adamant about my sister and I working hard and being self sufficient. So from the outside, my Mom looked counter-culture, but she was really quite conservative. My Dad was always part of the mainstream responsible business world, but not overtly political.
My Mom would probably suggest that my politics have influenced her views more nowadays (btw: you know that Smoothsail is my Mom, right?) |
