yes, i've always figured that's where you got your smarts. :)

So from the outside, my Mom looked counter-culture, but she was really quite conservative.

you're lucky you had a mom that pointed you in the right direction. that's what a good parent is supposed to do. if you look at the animal world, the 'good' parents are the ones that teach their offspring the best about how their world works. those are the ones that have the best chance to survive.

i think learning economics is the best way to understand how 'our' world works. almost all my life i didn't know about economics. i didn't have to (or so i thought), because all i had to do was find a job to get by in the world. but if i would have understood classical economics, it would have changed my whole world.

if a person understands economics, it's very difficult to remain a socialist. if free market economics were taught in schools, socialism would be an obscure little cult, instead of the big powerful, violent one that it is.
