While I wouldn't disagree that VMS hasn't grown market share in the early 90s, it is doing quite while. In fact, VMS in 3Q99 had pretty substantial growth in Western Europe: unix.digital.com "Compaq was also the only computer company to record an increase in sales outside of the dominant UNIX mid-range server segment. According to IDC, Compaq's OpenVMS sales were up by 62 percent in the sector. The sharpest decline in the non-UNIX segments were experienced by AS/400 (-45 percent) and S/390 (-46 percent). These figures illustrate the extent of Compaq's success in the third quarter of last year with OpenVMS." Regarding your comments about "piece of crap legacy OS" I would take that to mean you don't know a whole lot about OSes. If you have a cell phone, the billing system is most likely running on VMS... there are few 7x24x365 databases out there but the ones there are fit nicely with VMS... Before you shoot off about this, keep in mind you need to be able to upgrade the OS WITHOUT losing application availability. One other point..
