AIT Advanced Information Technologies -
Travel document readers selected

Wednesday Dec 9 1998

Mr. Bernard Ashe reports

The United States Department of State has selected AIT's travel document readers to perform quality assurance on the passports issued by U.S. Consulates. The deal, valued at $450,000, calls for AIT's PV-200 leader to be deployed at U.S. Consulates around the world to ensure that when a new passport is printed it will meet international specifications and be accepted at global border control points.
The State Department is undergoing a worldwide Consulate modernization program, aimed at upgrading the technology used in key operational areas. A major responsibility of U.S. Consulates is issuing passports for U.S. citizens abroad, and one phase of the Consulate modernization program deals with upgrading the technology used to do so.
