I want to be very careful with how I say this, because I imagine we aren't really disagreeing. Understanding, studying and learning from the past is very different from excusing OR from accepting responsibility for terrorist acts. We should always pursue a course that is best for us, but examine our policies carefully for those unintended consequences as we prepare for the future. However, I don't believe there is anything that can justify terrorism and I don't want to ever give the appearance of believing we "deserve" it in some way. Terrorism is an act that removes those committing it from any sympathy, imo.
