A couple of fuzzy answers..

I've also noted that I lose a few dollars on the first day of each T-Bill purchase. I think it likely a reflection of the fee Schwab takes for processing them.

As to why the yield is slightly lower than the offered yield, again, my guess is that would be a result of a delay in the purchase date as with some new issues or Schwabs cut.

If it wasn't such a time waster plus the potentiality of talking to someone who doesn't know the answer, I'd call Schwab.
