<< My opinion - they are behind time-wise and technology-wise, and they know it. They beat around the bush, and focused on FUD. >>
But they are masters of spin and must be a great pain in the ass of USR. Did you notice that the first thing they said was 'only 56K questions please' [ meaning No questions about the disgraceful conviction of theft of modem technology reported on Friday please ]? And the analysts docilely acquiesced. Someone could have asked Did you use any stolen technology in your 56K chips?
These Rockers have, so far, always anticipated and defused or preempted USR's firecrackers. I don't want to bring politics in here, but using the most superficial analogy, it seems they have Clinton as their PRman and USR has Dole. What USR needs is a Perot, he's not always right but he can sell/talk. [ As an aside, I'd love to hear a Clinton - Perot debate in the same format as those between Mass Governor Weld and Sen. Kerry.]
In any case, these ROK guys must have anticipated the imminent deployment of x2 and made lemonade out of lemon. USR is disappointingly (somewhat) late with x2 release: Should have been last month. However, ROK hype can backfire if they can't deliver on schedule or if they deliver inferior products. But it seems they are so good at fudging that noone will be able to hold them accountable to anything: schedule or quality. |
