Enterra Energy Trust shares rise on 34 percent increase in 1st-quarter funds from operations

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Enterra Energy Trust jumped Thursday after the oil and gas trust said its first-quarter funds from operations rose 34 percent on higher commodity prices.

Shares advanced 75 cents, or 24.3 percent, to $3.84. Shares have traded between $1.04 and $6.41 in the past 12 months.

On Wednesday, the Canadian company reported funds from operations of $24 million, compared with $18 million in the same period of 2007.

FFO adds such items as amortization and depreciation back to net income and is considered a key measure of real estate investment trust strength because it gives a more accurate picture of cash performance.

The company attributed the growth to a substantial increase in commodity prices. The average sales price realized per barrel of oil equivalent in the first quarter rose 19 percent to $60.84.

Enterra also said its first-quarter loss narrowed to $1.9 million, or 3 cents per unit, from $62.8 million, or $1.12 per unit, in the prior-year period, while revenue grew 22 percent to $53.5 million.

The company said Thursday it will hold a conference call on May 22 to discuss the results, as well as recent positive developments.
