I was just now musing...If a company hires a firm which clearly advertises to try to silence critics, do we have a true CONSPIRACY to violate the civil rights of the critic?

As you seem to be one of the most level-headed of us (and because of that dictionary you wield), I would enjoy a comment from you on this idea.
