One question comes up is do we need the IP for the second PC ? In case of using the HUB, the second PC requires its own IP in order to access Internet - per advisory of cable company.

I do not know if you can use the configuration I suggested when a USB to cable modem connection is used in place of one of the NICs. And I have never seen any messages posted in news groups on how to share a modem when using your configuration. I am sorry but I can't answer your question as to whether you do or don't need two Internet addresses to share a cable modem with your configuration. Certainly your cable modem company expects you to pay for two Internet addresses.
