Steven, you make a good point with the potential application of using the TI chip in the hub side. It could be the leverage that USR needs to get very high port density into their hubs, and let them further capitalize on their leading-edge DSP code development.

Does anyone know the MIPS ratings of x2 DSPs (or Courier modems)? I would guess that it's somewhere south of 50 MIPS, but I'm not sure if it's ever been published. Let's say 50 for arguments sake. 1.6 billion divided by 50 million = 32. That's 32 x2 modems running on a single chip (to elaborate on Steven's point).

"Yes, sir, and how would you like your 1600 MIP chips in your Total Control Hub to run today? Will that be 40 xDSL ports and 640 56k ports? Perhaps you would like to throw in a few ISDN ports as well?. Of course, we can always reconfigure if the load demand changes."
