Ben, Dr. Eric Schmidt is the CEO of Novell. He came from Sun Micro and served as the chief technology officer who "was instrumental in the widespread acceptance of Java..." novell.com Dr. Schmidt played a critical role in the development of Java as an executive with Sun. My guess is that the announcement you refer to involves Sun's version of Java.
