Data storage company Network Appliance reported late Tuesday fourth quarter earnings excluding items of $14.6 million, or 4 cents a share, in line with the consensus of analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call. In the year-ago period, the company earned 2 cents a share. Revenue for the latest quarter totaled $204.9 million compared with the year-ago total of $225.8 million. Analysts were looking for revenue of $206.4 million. As for the first quarter, the company is looking for a profit of 4 cents to 5 cents on revenue in the range of $205 million to $215 million. Analysts currently expect a 4-cent profit, on revenue of $217.3 million. Shares closed up 71 cents to $18.04 but traded as low as $16.81 in after hours trading.
