That quote was from the same John Gage who promised at the first Java One that at the second Java One, Sun would give a Java PDA to all attendees to be used as conference guide and personal communicator. He absolutely gave his word that the books and paper conference materials would be replaced by this PDA and that conference feedback would work through wireless communications.

The second conference had the same old paper material with a non-functioning smart card as a souvenir.

Magnetic personality, great marketeer, long on words, short on delivery.
