That exact thing happened after one of the Florida hurricanes.

"If Pres Bush flew to the disaster area within 24hrs of the tsunami, today's U.S. Liberals would still find something to complain about."

He immediately flew to visit the aftermath in Florida, and was criticized for getting there too quickly, as if he were being an opportunist for public image only.

The same thing would have happened if he had immediately pledged an amount of money for the tsunami victims that dwarfed the other nations' contributions... he would have been accused of posturing and overspending for his own benefit.

Goes with the territory.

What some people don't realize is that the size of the initial pledge has no correlation to the number of lives saved anyway, as no matter what you pledge up front, the money can't be spent or used in any useful fashion for some time.
