What, hypocrisy from Ted Kennedy? I'm shocked, shocked!

Washington, D.C., has some of the highest taxes in the nation. As a sop to its beleaguered residents, though, it has a special tax break for some of its residents. It allows them a "homestead" deduction on their homes if they're their primary residence -- a loophole that 22 U.S. senators jumped through, including Ted Kennedy.

The only catch is that it requires that the homeowner declare that home to be their primary legal residence -- which would immediately disqualify them from their Senate seat, as they would no longer be residents of the state they represent.

Unfortunately, Ted never filed the paperwork, so instead of finding himself out of the Senate, he just has to pay back the taxes (about $7,700). There's no word if there will be a penalty involved, but I doubt it -- after all, he's TEDDY KENNEDY, for heaven's sake. We can't hold him to the same standard as you or I.

Teddy, of course, is blaming his bookkeepers for the "error." I can believe it -- I can't see him wanting to be bothered with such trivial details such as the little people have to be. But it is just so damned typical of Teddy and his ilk.
