The World's First Electrically Switchable Lens

The lens may include several holographic optical elements (HOEs). The slideshow in their Technology Backgrounder shows how they 'author' the elements. An ASIL with three elements, one each for R,G,B, is well suited to color sequential operation. Now that's an optical switcher.
Gee whiz!

At Comdex Fall '99 they unveiled some interesting proofs of concept. See the 11/16/99 press release for details. One is a "high-brightness, full-color miniature heads-up display optic" (using Cree LEDs). The other is a replacement for the color wheel; it can be used to separate red, green and blue light from the white light beam of a projection lamp.

DAK - saw your post of this on the Cree thread. The optic could also be used with Kopin's display to improve image quality and possibly increase magnification. I'm not sure something as fancy as this would fit in with their cost structure, though.
