It is an excellent way to stay out of trouble with the court. Yes, you're right. I considered in my last post adding something about potential legal risk in trying to anticipate what the lawyers would do with that info. What got my mind going on this subject this morning was a comment I made to M yesterday about the flaw in using the value of IRAs and 401Ks as a proxy for how much money people have saved for retirement. Proxies always present a problem. And I'm always 1) noticing such things and 2) trying to be helpful. Perhaps the smart thing is to just answer the question they ask rather than to anticipate what they really want to know.
