Hello, average joe
I have used the words "cervical cancer circumcision jewish" in my search engines and found many links, but I have been unable to find any internet references that support your contention. This link is typical:
cirp.org
Perhaps you can help us out here. Anything that contributes to the education of this thread is welcomed.
When one takes a distinct people with very specific cultural and dietary factors one must be careful not to presume causative relationships around what are likely incidental relationships. How does the Jewish reality of smoking, diet, multiple sexual partners, etc. compare to other circumcised or non-circumcised groups?
As well, keep in mind that even were there someday proven to be a beneficial relationship between circumcision and (say) decreased cancer rates, it would have no relevance to any God argument. Just because one or more out of thousands of ancient proscriptions or prescriptions might prove to be supportable as healthy by science, does not prove that a wise and loving God mandated the thing. Indeed, all the ridiculous facts that would accompany this lucky happenstance (such as God's scientific ignorance of the heavens and of the earth, his superstitious medical techniques, etc.) would belie any assumption of this God being a loving and omniscient God.
You have seen, of course, the other links by scholars stating that circumcision was practiced long before biblical history, and was a primitive sacrificial procedure. Those people would hardly have been in a position to validate the effect it had on cancer rates, etc. Also, an assumption that God might have demanded circumcision because he was concerned about cancer rates in Jewish woman is really ignoring the scriptural history of God's relationship with woman, isn't it? I cannot imagine that God, with God's lack of impulse control, and with God's incredible record for killing people--would be relying on the dubious potential for cervical cancer, when he raged and obsessed about foreskins... |
