Mobile Chip Sales Slump Fuels Texas Instruments Loss

DALLAS (AP) -- Texas Instruments Inc., hurt by nagging weak demand for
semiconductors used in cellular phones and other devices, reported a net loss for
the second quarter and warned its results would deteriorate in the third quarter.

For the three months ended June 30, the company posted a net loss of $197
million, or 11 cents per share, compared to a profit of $1.3 billion, or 72 cents
per share, a year earlier.

The company said it earned $50 million, or 3 cents per share, compared with
$543 million, or 30 cents per share, a year ago.
