Dee Jay-- I disagree: his "bottom line" is not to "protect the value of the dollar" but to direct monetary (well, maybe better to say "fiscal") policy. The value of the dollar is incidental to this (unless, of course, the bond market goes through the floor; but even so, theoretically it's irrelevant). Japan's stagnant economy? Surely Unk is wise enough to realize that in many ways Japan's is a command economy (okay, maybe I go a little too far here, but I'm not entirely wrong), and that many of their problems are reinforced by their own protectionism, and that even more are not only reinforced but also exacerbated by their banking system. Apples and oranges. "The non-farm payroll gains were offset by the unexpectedly large reduction in new job formation - way below estimates." Yeah, I know: that was my point. Janice
