Not that farfetched, both Baathist regimes and have read of long standing Tikrit ties to clans in Syria. Peace for the region would have no chance if it happened... nothing would change - it would just be hidden better by Assad. If events began to unfold in that direction... Saddam dies/flees, the sons do the same, and some new nameless Baathist shows up in power I think the US would have to assume Hussein was still pulling the strings (even if it was Syria).It would be a mistake not to go in in either case. I believe Wolfowitz et al are on track with this policy. We need a dynamic shift in the ME, starting with democracy in Iraq and the potential fallout it may have thruout the region. No shift and we may just be dealing with a real world war in 1 or 2 decades.
