OT...More natural gas demand being created....

Dominion to Spend $280 Million to Install Gas-Fired Generator

Richmond, Virginia, April 11 (Bloomberg) -- Dominion Resources Inc., Virginia's largest utility company, said it plans to spend $280 million to install a natural gas-fired generator at a plant that now burns coal and oil.

Dominion expects to complete the 500-megawatt project at its Possum Point plant in northern Virginia by May 2003. The company will shut two of the plant's three oil-fired generators, and stop using coal in two other units.

Power companies are under pressure from regulators and environmentalists to cut emissions that can cause smog and acid rain. Dominion said the gas unit will produce about 82 percent less nitrogen oxide and 92 percent less sulfur dioxide than a coal- fired one of similar size.

The unit will generate enough electricity to light 500,000 typical U.S. homes. The plant's coal units and the idled oil units generate up to 467 megawatts combined. The remaining oil generator can produce 786 megawatts.

Here's to being able to supply the demand!
