mr mark, I read your 'ramble' with interest. Closing all open programs before an install is my practice already, but defragging the HD is not. I reason that the install
procedure produces some fragmentation and so defrag AFTER
an install if the indicator suggests it. But your practice can't hurt.

Re uninstall: many programs today come with their own uninstall utility. Often this is not indicated anywhere and the user does not know until he has installed whether
an uninstall is available. This means one may have had
Norton monitor the install, but will uninstall later using
the vendor program.

Any thoughts on that?
