Derek.

Good questions. If you were to take the general statements that USRX has said about X2 and the requirements for 56k (half duplex, polarized) connectivity, then the answer would be yes. ISDN is a digital service, and the ISDN line leaving your house is digital as well.

However (dont ya hate it when that happens?):
1) It is true that ISDN is a digital protocol, but is an old standard that has been deployed for some time now. It is not compatable with the X2 digital server side of the X2 proprietary protocol. So if your X2 modem could dial in to the ISDN TA using the SPIDs (phone numbers...one for each of 2 BRI channels) supplied for the ISDN line, it could not negotiate an X2 session simply because the TA (Terminal Adaptor...The ISDN "modem", not Tech. Anal.) can not speak X2. It only knows about ISDN, not the X2 server-side protocol.

2) ISDN is a dial-up service, simular to your analog phone line in that it uses common copper pair cabling as a physical media. This is about the extent of the simularities (without going into details) between the two. In most instances your digital ISDN networks do not overlap the analog voice networks. You can not dial an ISDN circuit from an analog phone line. They are isolated.

Hope this helps.

PS: MY ISDN is very rusty...so anyone else please jump in and address with the proper answers.
