Janice,

The fed is in charge of monetary policy. The president and congress control fiscal policy. The Fed controls interest rates by controlling the supply of money in the open markets and adjusting the discount rate. Just a quick econ 101 reminder.

Personaly, I feel this man can do no wrong. Time and again, he has responded to economic conditions and seldom can the results of his actions be argued. He has steered a excellent course that all can live with, low inflation, moderate growth and healthy financial markets.
Whenever any of theese three factors begin to deviate, he has responded with the appropiate course of action, including last night.

Although the post election rally has been limited to the large stocks, this is were I see the danger if it wasn't stemmed. If the big stocks
continued to soar, what does one think is going to happen. They will selloff and sell fast. IBM and Intel losing five points a day was going to spell disaster for all stocks, regardless of the valuations of the small and mid caps.

Who better to do it. The market will not listen to anyone else but the man who has the most influence.

Good Luck all. Roy
