Corded phones are great in emergencies - if you have one of the older ones, they work even when the power goes out

That's why I like gas stoves and gas heat. My husband is blind and can't feel the buttons properly on either my cell phone or the cordless phone. He likes the speakerphone on the corded models too. We tried Vonage for the price, and it worked great for a while, but then it developed problems - I'd be talking with someone and all of a sudden they couldn't hear me or I them. Vonage and Comcast of course pointed the finger at each other so we said the heck with it. I was also a bit nervous of losing phone service if we lost cable, even with cell phone (Verizon Wireless) as backup.
