H. Wai,

I believe SUNW is in the solutions business. They benefit from
having SUNW products installed wherever they can. Some potential
customers for their workgroup products may have an inventory
of PC's they can leverage with Solaris. They may buy a few new
Ultra 5's & 10's & tie the whole thing up with Enterprise 450
servers. Any way you cut it, SUNW benefits.

Two years ago, I would have agreed with you. To an extent,
customers would prefer inexpensive hardware platforms that
delivered the goods, so a company may have chosen PC's instead
of SUNW Ultra's, thus not helping SUNW's hardware business. Now,
however, SUNW has inexpensive hardware, so they can offer a
number of solutions to fit the customer's needs. SUNW sales
reps can walk into a customer sight with a good story to tell.
Customers just love one-stop-shopping & SUNW can offer that
& that enhances BOTH their hardware & software business.
