John, it's possible the uncertainties surrounding Y2K threw them an unusual curve ball in accurately predicting demand last year.

Seems to me nearly everyone felt at the beginning of the year businesses would hold off purchases of new computers and wait till the new year. Then around August everyone changed their mind and went on a buying spree in order to replace their old computers before the year was up. While they struggled to catch up with business demand, consumers decided the differential between 600 mhz and 200 mhz was enough to upgrade. And Intel got hit with both barrels.

I can think of far worse problems for a business to have.

Michael
