Some of the meat goes to Europe, mainly France, some goes to pet foods. The houses have buyers that go to auctions and buy the cheaper horses. Others free lance and look for horses that kids grew up with and have left home so old Dobbin is taking up pasture room. The usual spiel is looking for a pet for the daughter, offers $300 and will pay up to $500. Guy gets a trailer full and off to the house where the going rate is $800 a head. BTW, I sold a horse at an auction with a minimum of $1,000. Several months later my neighbors brought me a magazine with a picture of the horse running on one of your beaches. I sold him and he's on the beach in Hawaii and I'm looking at snow. Should have sold myself.
